Screenless fitness tracker

Screenless fitness tracker: how the Thrive Health Band works

A screenless fitness tracker is a band you wear that does not put a display on your wrist. The Thrive Health Band is built that way. It records supported readings while you move, train and sleep, and the picture waits in the app until you decide to look.

What screenless means

Screenless means there is no watch face on the band. No time, no notifications and no scores lighting up on your arm. The band's job is to capture readings. Your phone is where you read them.

That is different from a smartwatch, which is built to be glanced at. A screenless fitness tracker suits people who already use a phone for messages and apps, and who want fitness and health patterns without a second screen asking for attention during a walk, a meeting or the night.

Thrive has no screen. Readings move to the Thrive by Optihealth app, on iPhone or Android, and to My Health on the web. When you want a plain-language explanation of your own week, you can Ask Thrive. If you want the longer version of wearing a band beside the phone you already own, see why wear a screenless health band with your phone.

Why it matters

The useful part of a fitness tracker is often the pattern, not the glance. Steps across a week, how last night's sleep sat beside today's training, and whether your heart rate looks like your own usual: those show up when you choose to open the app.

  • Less on the wrist. Calls and messages stay on your phone. The band does not repeat them.
  • Easier overnight wear. There is nothing glowing on your wrist at 2am. Sleep readings are there in the morning.
  • Battery that fits continuous wear. Thrive is rated for up to 14 days between charges. A charge takes about 30 to 40 minutes, and the app reminds you at 35%.
  • Water for real days. The band is IP68, and it is also rated 5 ATM, so you can shower and swim with it.

A screenless band is a poor fit if you want payments, calls or live pace on your wrist while you run. Keep a watch for those jobs. Thrive is for the health picture, with the display on your phone.

How Thrive works

You wear the band. It uses five sensors, described on the Science page:

  • PPG for heart rate, heart rate variability, blood oxygen and breathing rate.
  • Heart Rhythm for a short electrical recording when you choose to take one. It is a wellness check. It does not tell you whether you have a heart condition.
  • Bioimpedance for estimates of body fat, lean mass and body water.
  • A temperature sensor for skin temperature changes at the wrist.
  • A six-axis movement sensor for steps, training information and sleep insights.

Some results are measured from the sensors. Some are estimates. Some are patterns over time, compared with your own baseline rather than a population chart. Blood-pressure figures are cuffless estimates and trends. They are not a diagnosis, and they are not the same as a cuff reading at a clinic.

For fitness, the app shows steps, distance, workouts and estimated calories. Walks, runs and rides can be tracked with GPS through your phone. Sleep and recovery sit beside that activity, so a harder week has context. You can set your own steps goal.

Thrive learns what is usual for you as consistent information builds. Your baseline starts as Emerging and can become Established once there is enough of your own data. Ask Thrive answers questions in everyday language about the information it has. It points to patterns and associations. It does not prove a cause, and it does not replace your GP.

You can also record meals, hydration, mood and the notes you care about, and keep selected records in the same place. Thrive Loops lets you share chosen information with a participating trainer, health professional or someone you trust. You choose what they see, and you can change that access.

Thrive does not sync to Apple Health. That is by design: sleep, activity, recovery, nutrition and check-ins stay in one connected system, the app and My Health on the web. More of what the band and app cover is on Features.

What it costs in Australia

The band is never sold on its own. Thrive Complete is A$660 for the band and 12 months of the plan, paid upfront. That 12 months includes the app, My Health on the web, Ask Thrive and Thrive Loops. Prices are in Australian dollars and include GST. Free Australia-wide shipping (usually A$14.99) under the current launch offer.

You keep the band. The A$660 purchase does not renew automatically. After those 12 months you can:

  • Keep the band and pay A$240 for another year of the plan. Over 24 months that is A$900.
  • Keep the band and pay A$29 a month, month to month, with no lock-in. Twelve months at that rate is A$348, so the 24-month total is A$1,008. The monthly plan bills each month until you cancel.
  • Or pay A$800 upfront for the band and 24 months of connected access. That is a separate Thrive Complete option, not the A$660 price plus a renewal.

If you are weighing this against WHOOP at Australian prices, the 12-month and 24-month totals are on Thrive vs WHOOP.
