HRV tracker

HRV tracker: a heart rate variability tracker you wear

An HRV tracker is a wearable that keeps heart rate variability while you live, train and sleep, so the useful part is the pattern. A heart rate variability tracker on your wrist should not ask you to interpret one morning in isolation. The Thrive Health Band records HRV from its optical sensor and shows it against your own usual in the Thrive by Optihealth app.

What this page is for

This page is about the tracker: what the band records, where you read it, and what it does not claim. If you want the plain-English explanation of heart rate variability itself, why it jumps around, and why your own usual matters more than a chart, start with what HRV is.

The band has no screen. Readings wait in the app until you open them. If you want the wider note on a band with no display for activity and sleep, see screenless fitness tracker. HRV here is one signal inside that band, not a separate device.

How the reading is taken

The optical sensor (PPG) on the wrist is what Thrive uses for heart rate and heart rate variability, through the day and night, without you starting a session. You can look at HRV on its own, or beside sleep, activity and the check-ins you record.

Thrive compares the pattern with your personal baseline. That baseline starts as Emerging and can become Established once there is enough of your own data. Recovery insights include an estimated time to get back to baseline, which is a different number from HRV. One is a variability reading. The other is an estimate of how long a return to your usual might take. Neither is a diagnosis.

A lower night is not, by itself, a finding that something is wrong. Late nights, hard sessions and busy weeks move the number. If you feel unwell, talk to your GP. Ask Thrive can help you describe the week in everyday language. It identifies patterns and associations, not proven causes.

The band is IP68, and it is also rated 5 ATM. Battery life is up to 14 days, so overnight readings do not depend on a charge every evening. Thrive does not sync to Apple Health.

What it costs in Australia

The band is never sold on its own. The price is A$660 for the band and 12 months of the plan, paid upfront. That 12 months includes the Thrive by Optihealth app, My Health on the web, Ask Thrive and Thrive Loops. Prices are in Australian dollars and include GST. Free Australia-wide shipping (usually A$14.99) under the current launch offer.

You keep the band. The A$660 purchase does not renew automatically. After those 12 months you can:

  • Keep the band and pay A$240 for another year of the plan (A$20 a month). Over 24 months that is A$900.
  • Keep the band and pay A$29 a month, month to month, with no lock-in. Twelve months at that rate is A$348, so the 24-month total is A$1,008. The monthly plan bills each month until you cancel.
  • Or pay A$800 upfront for the band and 24 months of connected access. That is a separate Thrive Complete option, not the A$660 price plus a renewal.

Common questions

What is an HRV tracker?

An HRV tracker is a wearable that records heart rate variability while you wear it, so you can look at the pattern over days rather than a single number.

What is a heart rate variability tracker?

A heart rate variability tracker records the variation in time between heartbeats. On Thrive, that reading comes from the optical sensor and is compared with your own usual.

How does Thrive track HRV?

The Thrive Health Band uses light-based sensing on the wrist to show heart rate and heart rate variability through the day and night. You see it in the Thrive by Optihealth app, next to sleep and activity. It is not a diagnosis.

Does a lower HRV on Thrive mean something is wrong?

No. A lower night or week can reflect ordinary life, such as a late night, a hard session or a busy stretch. If you feel unwell, talk to your GP, whatever the number says.

Does Thrive sync to Apple Health?

No. Thrive does not sync to Apple Health. Sleep, recovery and the context you record stay in the Thrive by Optihealth app and My Health on the web.

Can I buy the band on its own?

No. The band is never sold on its own. The price is A$660 for the band and 12 months of the plan. After that, the plan is A$240 a year (A$20 a month) or A$29 a month, with no lock-in. You keep the band.
